International Women’s Day is a United Nations–sanctioned global holiday that aims to celebrate women’s contributions to society and raise awareness to the areas of society that need to improve to reach gender equality. At No.1 Media we use it as way to amplify women’s voices and however you choose to celebrate it, we are here to listen and learn. This week we are spotlighting some of Irelands most beloved businesswomen and entrepreneurs.
Each year has an official theme, but unofficially, many people use it as a day to remember all the women that have made an impact in their lives through sharing International Women’s Day quotes, thoughtful messages, and more. Right now, we are all apart so what better way to bring us together than engage some of our favourite most vibrant women in an interview.
What does IWD mean to you? Applauding our community of women and their achievements. Encouraging others to succeed, recognising their endeavours and cheer leading for each other always.
What does your role entail? As CEO of a relatively small but regularly active business I jump from product design to graphics, social media to marketing campaigns, video production and photography to dispatch, and from logistics and web design to an aspect of accounts! There is never a dull moment but it keeps me engaged and motivated!
What have been some of the biggest struggles and triumphs as a woman in business?
Watching the business grow year on year is the biggest triumph for me. Seeing repeat business from awesome customers. Seeing joy from customers using and loving your range and recognising the efforts you have gone to. There will always be struggles and mishaps from manufacturing delays, design flaws, the odd delivery becoming mislaid and upsetting a customer. But thankfully the pros outweigh the cons.
What skills are important to have in your sector?
Remembering that you are a complete representative of your business. You are the spokesperson so acting responsibly, having Patience, and keeping a level head at all time is key. Also, remaining humble no matter what level of success you may experience is a massive one in my book.
Describe the 3 characteristics about yourself that you believe led to your success in business.
I believe consistency is key – staying true to yourself and your product. Try not chop and change your message from year to year. It is important to keep up to date with trends and to react accordingly but don’t follow them so drastically you lose your product identity.
Quality – Being smart with finances is a massive part of business for anyone and budgeting appropriately is simply good sense but one thing you should never compromise on is your quality. People will notice and you will lose respect as a brand.
Networking – acknowledge your customer base and make time for them, connect with your peers and applaud their success, support those around you, help others to succeed. Keep in touch with the people around your business, be thankful, give back and stay humble!!!
What do you do on a regular basis to celebrate your woman self?
I buy shoes!!! Even in lockdown I still wear them. I will never ever walk away from my shiny skyscrapers! They make me happy!
