Revive Active is pleased to announce the highly anticipated launch of its newest product, Omega Active (€29.95). An Omega-3 supplement, that contains 1,362mg of Omega-3 fish oil, per two capsules equating to 756mg of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and 504mg of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which is known to support:
- The normal function of the heart
- The maintenance of normal brain function
- The maintenance of normal vision
- Maternal intake contributes to the normal brain and eye development of the foetus and breastfed infants*.
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for your health, and it’s advised to take the recommended daily allowance of 250mg of DHA and EPA as our bodies cannot naturally produce them. Eating foods that are rich in Omega-3, like fatty fish is the best way to get your daily intake, however, many adults in Ireland are deficient in Omega-3 as they do not eat the daily recommended amount of fish, therefore, taking a supplement is the best way to get the daily recommended intake.
Revive Active Operations Director, Colm Horton Comments: “Consumer research was a very important part of the research that went into the development of our Omega Active product. It quickly highlighted the fact that for many of the Omega-3 products on the market (especially those with a reasonable dose of DHA and EPA), there was a significant issue for consumers around the fishy aftertaste associated with most fish oils.
While the addition of flavours and natural oils to Omega-3’s can help to offset this, it doesn’t prevent it. Solving this problem became one of the primary drivers for our NPD team, resulting in us being able to bring to the market the world’s first plant-based, enteric, Omega-3 capsules. Eliminating the fishy aftertaste from our Omega Active capsules enabled us to increase the concentration of EPA and DHA in each capsule.”
The new Omega Active capsules have been created using a plant-based enteric shell, meaning that the Omega-3 capsules do not dissolve in the stomach but will only dissolve after passing into the upper intestinal tract. This allows for more efficient absorption into the bloodstream and prevents a ‘fish-like’ aftertaste. Non-enteric fish oil capsules dissolve in the stomach, releasing their Omega-3 oils to rise and float on top of stomach contents, which in turn causes an undesirable fishy aftertaste.
Delivering Omega-3 in a plant-based enteric shell is a global first and makes the product suitable for pescatarians who normally can’t take Omega-3 capsules due to the meat source used for gelatine in regular soft gel capsules. The EFSA recommends a weekly intake of 1,750mg of EPA and DHA for non-pregnant individuals, equating to 250mg per day and this can be achieved by consuming 8 ounces of fatty fish per week.
Omega Active is the first product in the Revive Active product portfolio that is suitable to take during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. It contains a high dose of DHA per serving and DHA during pregnancy is important for optimal foetal development (Swanson et al., 2012). Therefore, it is advised that pregnant women take an additional 700-1400mg of DHA weekly on top of this baseline recommendation ((Christifano et al., 2023) & Carlson et al.,2021)).
Omega Active also carries the ‘Friend of The Sea Certification’, which is a leading international certification for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment. It is the only sustainable fisheries certification process recognised and supervised globally by a National Accreditation Body.
Processing of the fish and omega-3 must be carried out in line with environmental management system practices and Social Accountability principles, this certification gives Revive Active the confidence and assurance that the Omega-3 Fish Oil in each capsule is sustainably sourced.
