With Mother’s Day fast approaching, and experiences becoming more popular than gifts, why not book your mum a special afternoon tea at the iconic Hardiman on Eyre Square, welcoming guests for 170 years.
Relax for the afternoon with a selection of delectable treats created by The Hardiman’s Head Pastry Chef, accompanied by teas and coffees selected by their in-house tea masters and barista. Afternoon Tea is a meal served to a small group on cake stands consisting of sandwiches with a variety of fillings, scones with clotted cream and jam and a selection of miniature desserts accompanied by teas and coffees.
History of Afternoon Tea
The story goes that Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, complained of “having that sinking feeling” between lunch and dinner. So, a tray of tea, bread and butter and a selection of small cakes were brought to her in her boudoir. Such was the spectacle of the whole thing that she began inviting friends around and before she knew it “afternoon tea” became the thing to do for upper class and society women. So, if it’s good enough for a Duchess, it’s definitely good enough for mum.
Enjoy listening to the Hotel’s resident pianist play in the Parlour Lounge at the weekends while enjoying Afternoon Tea. Traditional Afternoon Tea is €34 per person or you can upgrade your experience by adding a glass of Prosecco for €42 per person. Bring the grandchildren for €18 per child. Served daily from 1.00-4.30pm.
