WHAT ROBBIE HENSHAW EATING, WATCHING AND MORE
Hi Robbie! How are you doing?
I’m fantastic. On a complete high from Six Nations Grand Slam win on Saturday.
What is the most important step in your morning routine?
Having a shower and making my bed is always the first thing I do to begin my day.
What is your favourite step in your self-care/skincare routine?
I really enjoy getting a massage. It’s essential for my recovery, both mentally and
physically.
What type of food are you are loving now?
I love a bar of a chocolate with a cup of tea. Or a biscuit with tea. I think everyone must have some sort of treat. But we take our diet and lifestyle seriously. You always have to make sure you’re fuelling up because again, even especially when you’re injured, you know you’re getting the right food into your body… because it makes a huge difference. And then off season I suppose you can pull back a bit.
How do you keep on top off your health and fitness?
Being beset by injuries has led me to explore remedies that aid not only in recovery but in general health. I have partnered up with multivitamin brand AYA, which is now a part of my daily routine.
It’s a good fit for me to help stay healthy, not get run down or get colds. Obviously, eating well is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle but having a multi-vitamin in your diet is also key, especially in the winter months. And it is an Irish owned brand, so for me it was a natural fit.
Being a professional athlete requires stamina, concentration, and a very intense training regime. AYA Ultimate One a Day helps me through my busy schedule. It is a potent powerhouse multivitamin packed with 40 vital vitamins and minerals to meet the complex demands of modern life.
What are you streaming?
I’ve just finished Squid Games- I’m unsure what to think but it was interesting.
I really enjoyed The White Lotus.
What are you looking forward to?
Summer and getting ready for the Rugby World Cup
If you were to create Robbie’s Ultimate AYA must haves’ containing just
two products, what would they be?
AYA Ultimate One a Day and AYA Magnesium, AYA Ultimate One a Day is powerful multivitamin. I take AYA Magnesium Citrate every evening, it is gentle on the stomach and helps to support healthy muscles, energy levels and overall wellbeing. I also find taking AYA Magnesium really helps to support the reduction in tiredness and fatigue’’.
If you weren’t playing Rugby, what career would you have gone into?
I was always interested in geography in school. I suppose that economics and business interested me. Hopefully post-rugby they might give me some sort of fallback for the future,’ he revealed.
The IRFU has an enviable reputation for preparing its stars for post-pitch life and a number of successful initiatives have paved the way for former players to enter the workforce and deal with the mundanity of ordinary life.
‘We have a structure called the Ireland Players’ Association. They look after the academic side of things for us. They acknowledge that adjusting to life after sport can be a difficult process. So, they encourage us to upskill and they help us with things like getting into college. They also brought in a new initiative this year that is focused on helping our mental health. That transition going from professional sports to retirement in one day and then going into the working world – a world you have no familiarity with – can be hard.
