The recent movement towards sustainability and healthy living has led many to adopt a vegan lifestyle, even if just for Veganuary. However, when it comes to clothing, it’s not always apparent to customers whether their purchases or the brand adopts ethical and animal friendly practices. This Veganuary, Human Collective, is helping educate consumers on why it’s not just their food that should be vegan.
Speaking about the topic, Conor Buckley, CEO at Human Collective said, “It’s an incredibly misunderstood topic and people get very passionate on either side of veganism. But we believe it is our responsibility to provide customers with clothing that is both comfortable and sustainable.”
Animal agriculture is a leading cause of global warming and the single leading cause of deforestation worldwide. Whilst vast amounts of grains and gallons of water are also used to feed these animals each year.
“Even with recycled or organic materials, much of the clothing market uses by-products of animals, which are not the most sustainable as it support the environmentally damaging industry of holding animals”.
Human Collective clothing is PETA-Approved Vegan, as the brand doesn’t conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and none of the brand’s products contain any animal derived components.
Instead, Human Collective product is GOTS* certified and uses organic cotton and recycled polyester as the basis for its product as they are amongst the most sustainable.
Organic produced cotton, for example, needs a relatively low amount of water to be produced, and has a low energy requirement and no toxic chemicals are used in its production. Recycled polyester – a more sustainable alternative to virgin polyester – uses up to half as much energy to make and saves plastic from landfill.
Human Collective is committed to minimising its impact on the environment by adopting sustainable practices at every step so customers can rest assured their purchases are considered and kind to the planet and the people who make them.
